Perhaps New Englands best kept secret is the unknown legend Mason Vincent who started out as a Radio DJ in Rochester New York. While working for WHEC radio and TV and WCMF FM met talked with and learned from some of the musical giants of our time. From partying with Jimi Hendrix to going to dinner with Jim Morrison and the Doors to communications with BB King and Johnny Winter. Mason took Janis Joplin across town after a show to Duffy’s Backstage, a club where legendary artists Like Albert King and Miles Davis would play for a week. That particular night Janis met Buddy Guy and Junior Wells. Muddy Waters gave Mason Buddy Guy’s first album and asked him to play it.
Mason always a musician from eight years old soaked up inspiration from many artists over the years, and reflects much of what he’s learned to his audiences. Rochester NY was only the start as Jamming with a very young Tommy Bolin in Colorado and time in San Francisco with American Standard and the Ska/Punks the Neutrinoz added to the storehouse of knowledge. Encounters with guitarists John MacLaughlin and Jerry Garcia as well as Jazz big bandleader Sun Ra added to the possibilities of his personal music. In NYC working with producer Tony Bongiovi [Jon Bon Jovi’s cousin] at the Power Station in the early eighties and a move to Boston opened another chapter. The ground breaking New Lions Reggae band set the stage for the Ska Band Happy Campers to tour record and make musical waves in the North East from New Jersey to Maine and all stops in between. Opening shows for BB King, Jeff Healy, Little Feat, the Radiators, The Dead Kennedy’s, Ziggy Marly, Andrew Tosh, Mutabaruka, Sleepy LaBeef and many more shows the range and scope of his musical appeal.
Mason Vincent has made music for decades in various bands and also has CD’s available on CDbaby, iTunes Spotify and other digital media currently for sale under some of those names as well as his own. The first solo record under his own name was the pivotal “Mason Vincent Cannibal Kings” CD from 1994-95, followed by “Future History” in 2003 and the Cannibal Kings CD “Lovers Rock” in 2004. Mason also has EDM electronica under the name Bakimono, with “Little Monster” and “Feed The Machine.”
As a song writer and producer he covers a lot of ground and still plays all kinds of music like rock blues reggae and ska funk and jazz and more, sometimes called Americana. His band is active in the north east and may be playing a venue near you. The music contains “all of the above” and may bring some joy into your life so come out and have a listen. He still plays prog/pop and classic rock with the band “TimeShip EverMore” and reggae/ska with “The Shape Shifters” so your presence is definitely required for the Mason Vincent Band.
